About NORTHDIP

Nordic Radiotherapy Diploma Program (NORTHDIP) is a two-year advanced training program in radiation oncology for clinical oncologists. Upon completion of the program, participants are expected to have scientifically grounded clinical proficiency in the assessment and treatment of patients requiring radiotherapy.

The NORTHDIP steering committee was founded in 2022 by the Nordic countries with the aim to develop radiotherapy competence among existing clinical oncologists and to make radiation oncology to an even more attractive part of clinical oncology.

The NORTHDIP initiative also have an ambition to increase the collaboration in research and development between the Nordic countries to create a foundation for future scientific collaborations. 

NORTHDIP is a two (2) year advanced training program in radiation oncology for clinical oncologists. At the end of the program the candidate should have scientifically based clinical proficiency in assessing and treating patients that need radiotherapy treatment.

Dates for the residential courses: Part 1: Sweden week 43 2026, Part 2: Norway week 11 2027, Part 3: Finland week 43 2027, Part 4: Denmark week 11 2028, Part 5: Iceland week 47 2028.

  2. Radiobiology, benign diseases an palliative radiotherapy
  3. Reirradiation, Stereotactic Radiotherapy, and BCNU Treatment
  4. Integrating New Radiotherapy Treatment Options
  5. Development of Protocols and Designing Effective Radiotherapy Trial

Certification: Upon program completion, participants will receive the NORTHDIP Diploma, contingent upon participating in all program components.

Admission fee: The NORTHDIP program NORTHDIP is a non-profit program. The participation fee is €5,000 excl VAT, which covers the educational program and residential courses, including accommodation and meals. Travel expenses are not included. Full payment is required prior to entry into the program.

Over the two-year period, the program includes five one-week residential courses, held in each of the Nordic countries. Applicants must therefore be willing to travel and to participate in all five course components, which is essential for building a strong Nordic network of clinical oncologists.

The program is conducted in English.

 

Information

Upon entering the program, the candidates will already have completed specialist training in clinical oncology. Specialists that have worked less than five years in the radiotherapy departement will be favored. The aim is to include applicants from both university an non-university hospitals.

30 applicants will be selected to the program; 10 from Sweden, 6 from Norway, 6 from Denmark, 6 from Finland and 2 from Iceland. Each country has a National committee that will decide which candidates in their country respectively that are accepted. If a country does not fill its assigned course places, the Nordic steering committee will chose the most suitable candidate to fill the spot.
